Idea - perhaps the Indus script is related to early Mesopotamian writing. It has been proven that there were trading ties between Indus Valley cities and Mesopotamia from very early on.

Research seems to suggest that the Indus script developed independently. The fact that there were trade links with other civilizations is interesting. The fact that some early Mesopotamian signs look similar to Indus signs may be a coincidence, or may suggest some influence. It is impossible to say for certain. The fact is that there is no concrete evidence of any influence from outside the Indus Valley in developing their script.
