Excavation notes:
This weight was found in a large and well-built house. The house had many rooms around a central courtyard. In this house, a well and a drain were found. This weight was found 1 foot and 6 inches below the surface.

Location: Area B, house XXIII

Other notes:
Chert weights like this were quite common in the major Indus Valley cities. They represent a standardized system whereby people in different cities would be able to use weights representing the same values in trade or taxation.

This is one of the larger weights which may have been used when measuring grain or seeds.
